We offer a wide range of nine-panel glass packs designed to suit Downham, Warwick and Bristol style doors. Our packs include decorative glass corners, borders and centre panels, available in various designs and colours.
All price examples shown on this page are based on the following standard panel sizes:
127 × 127 mm corners | 250 × 127 mm horizontal borders | 127 × 760 mm vertical borders | 250 × 760 mm centre panels
If your glazing sizes exceed these measurements, the glass will be priced P.O.A.
Please note: Fired enamel colours should only be used on the internal face of single-glazed doors unless the glass is protected by a canopy or used within a double-glazed unit for external applications. As with all enamel finishes, if used externally, ensure the enamelled side faces inward to avoid weather-related staining or deterioration.

Downham Door Centre Glass Panel Options
Our centre glass panel designs for Downham, Warwick and Bristol doors are faithful reproductions of traditional patterns, carefully made in-house using our etched and fired enamel techniques
. These eye-catching panels are available in a range of standard designs, and for customers needing an exact match, we also offer a full bespoke reproduction service. With our in-house illustrator, we can accurately recreate almost any existing design from a photograph or original pane.
Standard Etched Centre Glass Panel Designs
Our standard etched centre panels feature a fully etched background with the design left clear, creating a classic, high-contrast finish that suits both traditional and modern Downham-style doors. These panels are part of our standard range and can be cut to size (though please be aware of the design sizes as listed below) and toughened to meet current safety regulations.
Repeat Patterns are also available for centre panes, and clear glass.

Our Fired Enamel Starburst corners are one of our most popular decorative options for Downham and nine-panel doors. Each piece is screen-printed directly onto glass and kiln-fired at melting point, creating a vibrant and durable colour finish.

These corner panels combine both fired enamel colour and surface etching, offering a more detailed and decorative finish compared to the standard Starburst style.
While the Starburst design features colour screen-printed onto clear glass, this range incorporates etched detailing alongside the enamel, giving the glass added depth and character.
Each pane is carefully fired in the kiln to ensure long-lasting colour and an authentic traditional appearance.

Brilliant Cut Flashed Glass Corners
Brilliant cutting is an extraordinarily skilled and artistic craft, passed down through generations via traditional apprenticeships.
This age-old technique creates decorative designs on glass and mirror entirely by hand. Our brilliant cut corner pieces are individually crafted from flashed glass using authentic Victorian methods.
These decorative corners were traditionally seen in Victorian sash windows and doors, and remain a beautiful way to restore or enhance period features.

Decorative Border Glass Options for Doors & Sash Windows
We offer a wide range of decorative glass border panels, including traditional repeat-pattern etched borders, coloured fired-enamel borders, and combination etched-and-enamel designs.
These borders are commonly used in Downham nine-panel doors, front entrance doors, and sash windows, adding character, colour, and period detail.

One of the most cost-effective border options is our repeated etched patterns.
These are ideal for larger panes, such as sash windows,
because the designs are produced on full stock sheets measuring 1220 × 1070 mm, which can then be cut down to your required glazing sizes.

Enamel Coloured Glass Borders
Our enamel coloured borders are created by screen-printing transparent colour directly onto the glass, producing vivid red, amber, green, and blue finishes while still allowing light to pass through.
Customers can choose from plain coloured borders or opt for decorative patterns—such as the P10 desig in the enamel, leaving the motif clear and visually striking.
Please note: Fired enamel colours should only be applied internally when used on single-glazed glass unless protected by a canopy or encapsulated within a double-glazed unit. To prevent weather-related staining, always ensure the enamelled surface faces inward when used externally.

Natural Glass Properties
Our coloured glass range is created using traditional fired enamel techniques, where each panel is coated with enamel and kiln-fired, a method that has been used for generations, dating back to the 18th century.
As shown in the image, fired enamel glass naturally contains small seeds (also known as tiny air bubbles). Some customers mistake these as imperfections, but this is not the case. These characteristics are a natural part of handmade glass and contribute to the authentic, antique appearance that many people value.
These small bubbles are only noticeable when viewing the glass very closely, at eye level. Once the glass is fitted and viewed at a normal distance, they are barely visible and do not affect the beauty or quality of the finished panel.
Red Fired Enamel Natural Properties
Our red fired enamel has a unique chemical composition that includes trace amounts of gold. Because of this, when the glass is laid flat with the enamel side facing downward, it can appear to have a dark purple or blue tone. This is completely normal and often surprises customers when they first unpack their glass.
However, once the panel is picked up and viewed in natural light, as shown in the example image, the colour reveals its true, vibrant deep red. This shift in appearance is not a flaw, but a natural characteristic of vitreous enamels. The same effect can be seen in traditional stained glass found in churches, where fired enamel colours behave in exactly the same way.
The Difference Between Flashed Glass & Fired Enamel Glass
Many customers assume that our fired enamel glass will match the original coloured panels already in their home. However, in some cases the existing glass is actually flashed glass, which is a completely different material and behaves differently in both colour and texture.

Victorian Coloured Flashed Glass

This is Victorian flashed glass with a decorative design etched into the coloured surface.
Over the decades, flashed glass was produced in a wide variety of patterns, colours, and panel shapes, and here at Art Glass, we have recreated many of these traditional designs for customers across the UK.
These panels are also closely related to some styles found in our Brilliant Cut Glass range.
All flashed glass reproductions are priced on application, as costs vary depending on the colour, size, and complexity of the design. To receive an accurate quote, please send us your glazing sizes along with clear photographs of the panel that requires replacing.
